In case you didn’t already know, UTC@MediaCityUK loves celebrating the work of students and offering them work with industry partners. Live Briefs in the past have proven to be incredibly rewarding for both students and clients.

In July of last year Greater Manchester Police approached UTC with the following Live Brief;

‘Greater Manchester Police are looking to recruit a crew of talented film makers to produce a short film focusing on gangs in the local area with a moral message about reporting crime either directly to the Police or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

Local schools have scripted and performed a piece of drama on this topic and the film maker will need to work with these students to adapt their story line into a short film.’

The students working on the live brief began emailing  Jill Vescovi at GMP and the visited Harrop Fold School to see the play in July 2016. The story boarding began shortly after and in August 2016 casting for the film took place.

October 2016 saw the filming process begin and the production of Fearless was well underway. Students worked extremely hard outside of their college hours on the film and in November began the post-production of ‘Fearless’.

The film was in post-production until early February 2017 and on 28th February 2017 the film premiered at UTC@MediaCityUK with a huge audience including employees of Greater Manchester Police. The film has attracted a lot of attention on social media and the trailer alone has hit over 30k views on Facebook.

The film has been incredibly successful and we are proud of what our Year 13’s have achieved for their clients live brief. Greater Manchester Police and Crimestoppers have praised our students highly and commented on the high quality of the work they produced.

A huge well done to the core production team;

  • Liam Lyall – Project Lead and Cinematographer, Editor (also scriptwrite)
  • Emma Jackson – Director (also scriptwrite)
  • Ellice Street – Line Producer (also scriptwrite)
  • Hannah Bowler – 1st AD, Colorist (also scriptwrite)
  • Andrew Hennegan – Sound Engineer
