On January 25th 2017, UTC@MediaCityUK hosted an event that brought together a variety of our wonderful employer partners (old & new!) and our talented young people.
We welcomed guest speakers;
- David Walter CEO of Photolink Creative Group Limited
- Chris Dessent Managing Director of Creative Concern Limited
- Richard Wood Managing Director of Grain / Six and Flow
Between them these three Manchester leaders employ more than 500 people with companies that combined turnover more than £60 million!
A huge thank you to David for his words of wisdom and sharing his interesting story of building the company! Photolink have recently had a rebrand to seventy7 , their work is used worldwide and we were incredibly proud to have them at UTC to Inspire our young people. David is returning to work with UTC@MediaCityUK in 2017 and we can’t wait to welcome him again to inspire and engage with our young people!
Chris Dessent was our second speaker, a huge thanks to him for coming in and giving up his time. Chris’ company Creative Concern believe communications can change the world and they are proving that with what they do everyday! Chris’ spoke honestly about starting his business and the targets they have for the future. Inspiring our young people was something Chris definitely did and we can’t wait to see him again at UTC.
We closed the evening with the wonderful
Richard Wood! Six and Flow are a growing Manchester company that Richard has worked extremely hard on to build and develop. Richard provided an insight into his working life, what to expect if you set up your own business and how to make sure you still end up on top! A massive thank you to Richard for coming in and we look forward to working with him again.
The event also allowed our Interactive Media & Gaming students to showcase some of their incredible work. Our 16-19 Year old students have since leaving school developed their gaming and coding skills to be able to produce games that are developed and ready to be played on various platforms by anyone!
We pride ourselves on our work with employer partners and the exciting opportunities that we can offer to our young people alongside their GCSEs, BTECs and A Levels. UTC@MediaCityUK Delivers innovative, high-quality education that combines technical, practical and academic learning. By integrating three types of learning – technical, practical and academic – we create an environment where all students can find their strengths and specialise in subjects that interest and engage them.
